Please do exactly the next:
1. Make Factory Reset
2. Re-flash the phone with "samsung-galaxy-avant-gt386t-metropcs-firmware" firmware from the Support Area again.
3. Repeat "Unlock" operation. Restart the phone via phone's menu as operation ends, this is important.
4. Turns on the phone, wait 3-5 minutes and try to select network manually.

To connect SM-G386T phone you have to perform the following steps:
1. Disconnect USB cable from phone.
2. Go to Menu->Settings->More->About Device.
3.Tap on "Build number" 7 times to enable developer options.
4. Go to Menu->Settings->More->Developer options.
5. Turn on "USB Debugging" option.
6. Go to dial window.
7. Enter "*#0808#" number.
8. Select "DM+Modem+ADB".
9. Press Home button.
10. Go to dial window.
11. Enter "*#9090#" number.
12. Set "Diag config" to "USB" value.
13. Restart phone.
14. Press "Read Info" in software.

To Unlock SM-G386T phone, reflash it with "samsung-galaxy-avant-gt386t-metropcs-firmware" firmware from the Support Area (file is available in "samsung/for unlock and repair/sm-g386t/" folder of the Support Area), then perform "Unlock" operation.

No, You don't need to root the phone for an "Unlock" operation.
