You need both when you have only a blank silvercard.

JDM programmer = CHIP FIRMWARE PROGRAMMER
Phoenix/smartmouse = SERIAL COMMUNICATION with preprogrammed CHIP

You could read below thread for more details:

A question...do I have to run SIM_EMU_6.01_CFG.exe or I need to install SIM_EMU_6.01_CFG_v2.1.exe?

This configurator program is just there to help you create your personal flash- and epromfile with individual data. It will even assist to write them on the silver/greencard. I have never used the configurator as I am familiar with the plain files and I usually add the necessary Kis and IMSIs manualy through the phone.

If you want to make use of the configurator, you need to install it on your computer. The 2.1 version is the newest one.

If you can handle the plain files, then just remember there are always sets... the EPROM and the FLASH file. Also, there is a Flash file for the greencard (marked as 6.01g) and a flashfile for the silvercard (6.01s).

I don't want to rewrite a whole manual in this message though, just try to see which fits bets for you

Good luck

Regards

Ch@in
