Splitting GPRS and GSM part of the sim

Hello everybody.

A new idea....

I'm starting to seek informations about the current status of the sim card in the DATA/VOICE networks.

In fact it seems that the GSM and the GPRS authentication/initialisation are completly separated.

So I'm wondering if there is a way, maybe based in SimEmu (once more thanks for this absolutly great software...), to slit the GSM on one SIM and the GPRS on the other SIM.

For exemple having a last a simple way to synchronise mail and talk at the same time using only one operator account but 2 differents devices like a PDA for the GPRS and a regular GSM phone for voice ?

Or another interresting use could be, if you have work and personal SIMs from the same operator, to build a single SIM with the GPRS from work and the voice from the personal....or any other mix...

Or being able to turn of the GSM part of the sim in the PDA to be able to switch on a car phone to still have the mail synchornising on the device...

This could open up a new way ....because current phones and devices makers do not think about the GPRS device class issue....

Any idea ?

Thanks for reading me.

You can not use GPRS while you are talking, you can not talk while you are on gprs.

Also you can not use 2 sim with same time.

So you can not.

Just look around before posting, you can do BOTH....

For DATA AND VOICE :

For using 2 sim look at this forum archives...

That sound strange, because one line is connected( sending or receiving a call) the other can't make calls. That's my experience in Spain; I don't know in other countries.

I know that this work on certain network/operator and not at all in some country.

But that's not the point I'm seeking idea about.

I'm looking for any ideas to use "at the same time" the GSM part of my sim on a regular GSM phone, and using, for example, a PDA phone enabled to sync or surf, using only the GPRS part of my sim in it.

Have fun

Hi,

The problem is that the authenticate funtion is the same for the 2 parts.

Its like ADLS (more less) you number in ADSL is the same of the data and "voice" because the line is the same for both cases.

When you conect with the BTS you must be (the sim) authenticate and this is the same for both. You can also have one line only of data but the MSIDSN is diferent....(diferent IMSI & Ki).

Regards,
Sir Graham.

Hi Sit Graham,

I thought about that but, the way I am dreaming about it, is that a Sim can tell to a phone to "stay" only in the Gprs network and of course it can also say to a phone to be only live in the voice/gsm network.

That could be a "simple" (really not sure about that) mod to sim emu.

The small problem would be not to switch the 2 devices at exactly that same time...

Thanks for your reply

Interresting.

But when I look to the Treo 600 specifications, I see :

High-Speed Data Technology:
GPRS class 10, class B

So that means, like with amost all the current devices, your mail synchronisation will fail or at least wait for your voice call to end...

So even with this good device no "sync and talk"

Have fun
