Virtual SIM

A colleague and I are currently thinking about a business model that includes the opportunity for smartphone users in Germany to use two lines with one phone via an application. Due to the local tariff plan structure we would like to enable the mobile phone users to use a contract of operator A to make calls and send SMS and a contract of operator B to exchange data (internet, e-mail, etc.).

Today this seems not possible in Germany because the user would need 2 SIM cards and switch the cards for each function (SIM card A for calls and SMS and SIM card B for data). In the context of our research for a potential solution we came across the term "virtual SIM".

As far as we understand the functionality of the virtual SIM it enables the user to apply multiple (virtual) SIM cards within one ordinary mobile phone. For our targeted application we are wondering if it would be possible to add a (virtual) SIM card from operator B if the phone already contains a physical SIM card from operator A?

It would be great to have some input from professionals!

Many thanks in advance!

Best, Simon
