| Whats the issue with Comp128v2\3 Hey, I've been doing a lot of research and I'm curious to what exactly is the issue with cracking Comp128v2\v3 cards? I understand the principal of the algorithm and the fact that the Ki can never be commanded to be read directly. I understand the protections that disable the sim. What I don't understand is why do we even have to crack them? We have a physical piece of hardware and the Ki is physically on the hardware. Given the right equiptment I supose someone could desolder the chip (ROM equivilant) that holds the Ki and read it raw. Am I missing something? |

| The equipment necessary to open up the chip and attach cables to the die (Die (integrated circuit) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) to read out the Ki is extremely expensive. If you are willing to spend several millions to read out your KI from your SIM card of course you can do it, but most people just don't think it's worth it. |
