Question Galaxy Note 2 :: No Speaker Sound -- Scrap Unit or Solution?

  • I own an Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (SGH-i317m). I had no problems with it prior. I was using a hacked rooted ROM: Jedi X20 i believe.

SYMPTOMS / PROBLEMS
  • There is no sound coming from the speaker.
  • I am unable to hear the ringing of an incoming call or notification sounds
  • The earpiece + mic works fine allowing me to communicate during a call.
  • The headset jack, when used, produces a crackling garbled sound
  • Bluetooth works fine
  • Vibration works fine

CAUSES OF THE PROBLEM
  • The last time the unit worked i was aggressively pressing in a headset plug into the jack, The phone would not switch the sound from Speaker to the Headset so i kept pressing it in DEEPER. Normally this would work but this last time when the sound switched from phone speaker to headset, the headset now had a crackling / garbled sound. I, of course, removed the headset plug from the phone to restore the sound back to the phone's speaker but there has been no sound coming from the phone speaker since.
  • I've dropped the phone on a few occasions but the sound has always worked until the above was done.

SOLUTIONS TRIED BUT FAILED
  • Replaced the Buzz / Ringer / Loud Speaker hardware
  • Replaced the Earpiece Speaker Headphone Audio Jack Flex hardware
  • Replaced the ROM with the unrooted proper Bell version for my phone and updated to the latest firmware version 4.4 (Kit Kat).
  • I took the phone in to a local mobile phone repair shop. They could not figure out why the phone does not work and returned it to me. No charge.
  • I tried internal diagnostics: *#0*# << All works fine including Receiver except the SPEAKER option -- No sound for the SPEAKER.

Any ideas on what i can do to get the speaker of my phone to work again?

Is there a guide for noobs on testing / changing the audio ic? I really would like to resolve this myself. I've already opened up the unit but going about testing the audio ic part is over my head at the moment.
