Samsung to sell the Galaxy S IV in 6 variants

Samsung is ready to dump the GT-I9505 (Galaxy S IV LTE) into a mockup version of the Galaxy S IV specially for retailers. Samsung wants to use one device with LTE and 3G on it which could hint to the use of the Snapdragon 600 processor in the Galaxy S IV, another possibility is the use of Exynos processor with a separate LTE chip. Sadly, our insider told us that Samsung is mostly sure to use Snapdragon instead of Exynos.
The new Galaxy S IV comes in 2 colors in the first place, White and black. Samsung wants to sell the Galaxy S IV in 6 variants.

GT-I9500 Galaxy S IV 16 GB (White)
GT-I9500 Galaxy S IV 32 GB (White)
GT-I9500 Galaxy S IV 64 GB (White)
GT-I9500 Galaxy S IV 16 GB (Black)
GT-I9500 Galaxy S IV 32 GB (Black)
GT-I9500 Galaxy S IV 64 GB (Black)

Of course storage is never a problem in Samsung devices since they have MicroSD exapansion support and we do expect a MicroSD slot in the Galaxy S IV which simply means you can upgrade the storage of your Galaxy S IV with up to 64GB.
Samsung is expected to introduce the Galaxy S IV on March 14th in New York City.

Looks like is 100% confirmed the use of the processor exynos 5 while would be introduced a new technology called eye tracking which should be able to interpretate the eyes movements and use this to help in reading text, websites or other.

Another leaked images of the S4 i9502 version showing a wcdma/gsm and a gsm simcard slot

According to the image above, the battery inside the GT-I9502 is one of 9.88Wh (watt-hour). Thanks to a neat formula (mAh = Wh x 1000 / V or milliamp-hour = watt-hour x 1000 / V) we find out that the battery is rated at 2,600mAh (9.88 x 1000 / 3.8).

This is a step-up from the 2,100mAh battery on the Galaxy S III but let’s not forget that about every internal aspect of the phone is expected to be bumped over last year’s model, including the screen and the processor, which are the main battery drainers.

Galaxy S4 launch: Samsung brings the fight to Apple

Samsung will unwrap its latest blockbuster smartphone, the Galaxy S4, at the Radio City music hall in New York on Thursday evening as the South Korean phonemaker tries to bring the fight to Apple's home market.
With Samsung rumoured to have ordered a production run of 100m handsets and research firm Strategy Analytics predicting the S4 will ship 60m units by Christmas, Seoul is going head to head with Silicon Valley for dominance of smartphone sales.

The Guardian will be reporting live from the unveiling of Samsung's most hyped handset yet when proceedings begin at 11pm GMT (7pm EST). Expected big features include wireless charging to a screen controlled not just by touch but by eye movements.

The Galaxy S4 should outdo the latest iPhone in areas such as photography and processing power, if the leaks are correct, but will still lag Apple on the quality of materials and the selection of apps available to the Google Android operating system it uses.

Every leaked screenshot so far suggests Samsung will retain the Galaxy's shiny plastic case, leaving Apple, which prefers aluminium, steel and glass, in its own category when it comes to external appearances.
The most eyecatching new feature is likely to be an extension of the ability to control the touch screen using eye movements. A front facing camera tracks the gaze, which in existing Galaxy phones is already used to stop the screen going dark while pages are being read, and to adjust the picture to the viewer's line of sight.

Trademarks called "eye scroll" and "eye pause" were registered by Samsung in Europe in January, suggesting two new functions, and these appeared to be confirmed by screenshots posted to specialist website Gsmhosting.com on 6 March.

The shots showed a menu of options, including one to "select the speed of scrolling when the device detects that your head is moving up and down", and suggested it would apply to emails and web pages. The menu also stated: "The device pauses videos when it detects your head moving away from the screen."

The rear facing camera is reported to be 13 megapixels, compared with the iPhone 5's 8, while the front-facing camera is also higher at 2 megapixels, which should improve the quality of video calls and self-portraits.

The S4's screen should be larger too, at nearly 5in on the diagonal, an inch more than the iPhone 5. Processors with two cores are enough to make Apple's latest phone one of the fastest in the world but the S4 is understood to feature Samsung's eight-core Exynos 5 processor.

Like Nokia's flagship Lumia handset the S4 will, according to South Korean publication DDaily, have the option of being charged wirelessly. Rather than using leads the phone is placed on a charging mat, which is itself is plugged into the mains.

The wildest rumour so far, put forward by Patently Apple, which monitors intellectual property filings, is that of a 3D camera for still shots and videos. The US Patent and Trademark Office published a filing last week by Samsung that shows a logo for such a feature. Doubters say 3D images make uncomfortable viewing and have not been popular with buyers of television sets or in the few smartphones that already feature them.

Where Apple retains a lead over Samsung is in its apps store. Google's Android software platform, which Samsung uses for the Galaxy devices, has attracted a large number of developers and its store is predicted to be the first to reach 1 million apps. But content creators still reserve their best products, such as new games, for iOS software because Apple's customers spend more than Android's.

Will Galaxy S4 give Samsung the 'iPhone killer' it needs?

South Korean company's latest handset - set for a launch on Thursday - could allow it to overtake Apple

LAST UPDATED AT 15:01 ON Mon 11 Mar 2013

SAMSUNG will unveil its hotly-anticipated Galaxy S4 handset this week and technology experts are already predicting the device will help the South Korean company steal the No. 1 position from Apple's iPhone.
The lavish launch of the S4, at New York's Radio City Music Hall on Thursday, is the latest "salvo" in the war between Silicon Valley and Seoul, says The Guardian. But while Apple once ruled the top end of the smartphone market, many forecasters expect the S4 to sell better than the iPhone over the next two years.

There are several reasons why Samsung has the whip hand. First, Apple has been weakened by rows with shareholders, trouble at its Foxconn factories and the iPhone maps debacle. Second, the Samsung brand is rapidly gaining ground, backed by a $5 billion-a-year electronics advertising budget that "dwarfs those of all its rivals", says the Guardian.

The buzz surrounding the S4 is so intense that when photographs reportedly showing the new handset were posted on a Chinese website today they were copied and analysed almost instantly and quickly dismissed as either fakes or pictures of a prototype.

Rumours about the capabilities of the S4 have been doing the rounds for weeks. It is believed to have a "huge" 5-inch display (much larger than the iPhone 5's relatively compact 4-inch panel) that offers a market-leading resolution of 1920 x 1080.

There is speculation it will be powered by an "eight-core processor" and a separate "eight-core graphics unit" that would make it much more powerful than Apple's latest handset. Analysts are also expecting the S4 to be fitted with a high definition 13MP rear-facing camera capable of shooting high-definition video at 30 frames per second.

Even more exciting to those hoping for cutting-edge innovation is the rumour that the S4 uses eye-tracking technology to gauge when users want to scroll up or down the page. Samsung has filed a patent for a technology called Eye Pause, says the New York Times, but has not revealed what it does.

Samsung will "take its last steps in Apple's shadow" with the launch of the S4, says Forbes, because the handset will be the company's last to conform to the "form factor" defined by the iPhone. Samsung will really come into its own in 2014 when its innovative screen technology and its Tizen operating system allow it to "transform the computing and online experience, in a way that is unique to its own vision". ·

Hands-off with the Samsung Galaxy S IV

(CNN) -- When is a touchscreen not a touchscreen? Increasingly, it's when your smartphone reads your eyes, gestures and movements to perform basic functions without tapping the screen at all.
That was Samsung's point Thursday with the rollout of the new Galaxy S IV, the latest from the company's flagship line and the first Android-based phone to seriously challenge Apple's iPhone for dominance in the mobile market. The phone will be available on all major U.S. carriers by the end of April.
From reading to Web surfing to answering calls, the new handset will give users the ability to use the phone sometimes without even needing to hold it.

Samsung Galaxy S4 makes a splash

Samsung's place in smartphone wars

Samsung unveils Galaxy S4 smartphone

Consumer Reports, after a hands-on with the device, declared that while it "falls short of being revolutionary, it brims with clever capabilities."
Chief among those capabilities, the iconic product reviewers said, are its touch-free features.
"You can do a lot with the Galaxy S 4 without ever touching it," wrote Mike Gikas, who demoed the device. "The only other phones that can do this are Samsung's jumbo-screen Galaxy Notes, but those require you use an S Pen Stylus, which the S4 does not have."
The non-touch feature that probably will get the most use is Air View, which lets you simply hover a finger (or, we suppose, any alternate body part) over the camera sensor to get a larger pop-up. It works with e-mail, photos and videos, calendars and the Galaxy's backed-in version of Flipboard, the news-aggregator app.
This is similar to what users of the Galaxy Note can already do, but it doesn't require the S-Pen stylus.

Users of the Samsung Galaxy IV will be able to scroll by tilting the phone back and forth.

Layered on top of that is Air Gesture. Users don't even have to be holding their phone to use this. Simply swipe a finger through the air sideways and you can toggle from screen to screen, or up and down to scroll through something you're reading.
Air gestures also can be used to answer a phone call. Again, all of these movements are tracked by the phone's front-facing camera.
Smart Pause is an advance on a feature already available on the Galaxy S III. It was rumored that the new phone would read eye movements, but instead it's the user's head that triggers this feature. It's designed to tell when you're actually looking at your screen, keeping its sleep mode from kicking in when you are and shutting down to save battery life when you're not.
Now, Smart Pause also will pause a video if you look away.
"When (you're) watching a video and suddenly someone calls you and you get distracted, the video automatically stops without pressing a thing," Lee Young Hee, executive vice president at Samsung Mobile, said at Thursday's event.
Smart Scroll builds on that feature. While you're looking at the screen, you can tilt the phone backward or forward to scroll up and down.
"While the ability to scroll by tilting a phone is a feature we've seen on some earlier Android models, its automated activation is new," wrote Gikas of Consumer Reports. "I found this capability worked better than I thought it might, engaging quickly whenever I stared at the screen."
And there's good news for owners of the Galaxy S III. Samsung vice president Nick DiCarlo told PC Magazine that they'll be getting some of the IV's software upgrades.
"Anything that we can do that's not dependent on hardware like infrared, we'll definitely bring to all the flagship devices," he said.
The question, of course, is whether users, even those excited about the phone and its new hardware and software, will actually use the gesture controls.
Nilay Patel, managing editor of tech blog The Verge, told CNN that he suspects the S IV's camera upgrades will be more significant.
"It feels very gimmicky," he said of the hands-free features. "The tricks about tracking your eyes and waving at the screen, I don't think anybody's really asking for that stuff."
What do you think about the new Galaxy phone's features? Let us know in the comments.
