What is the state of your phone exactly? In general, such error arise when the device has HW problem or You use incorrect cable. Try to do the next:

1. Disconnect all devices from PC and re-boot the PC.
2. Use the special P999 cable with 910k resistor, not standard Micro USB cable.
3. Connect the phone directly to PC motherboard USB port, don't use any USB hubs or PCI USB extention cards, this is important.
4. Try to write firmware again.
5. Try to write firmware on another PC.

If the problem is the same - check phone's HW.
