If you preferring to the Metro PCS model, that phone is a CDMA phone, so that means it won't work on a GSM network.

Try entering this on the phone, 2945*#840# or 2945*#71001#. If this takes you to a menu that gives you access to entering an unlock code than this phone can be unlock. If not, then there's a good chance that this phone cannot be unlocked.

Here's a simple tut on how to enter Unlock Code for your LG840 Tracfone.

1. Insert Original Carrier SIMCard.
2. On Menu, look for SIM App., Open it.
3. Tap Unlock:
4. Tap OK when shows ICC-ID.
5. Tap OK when shows IMEI Checksum:
6. Tap OK again when shows Random Number:
7. Then Enter Unlock Code on the box provided:, finally tap OK.

Congrats!
