HUAWEI E392u-12, ERROR_IMEI ...

Got my hands on this E392-12 locked to Swedish operator TeliaSonera. It is not stolen, it is not IMEI-locked by any operator, confirmed by TeliaSonera customer support.

Problem is that this modem is not recognized by Mobile Partner, tried on several Windows PC's (XP, Vista, Win7) and Mac OSX Mountain Lion.

Modem shows up in device manager:
Modems: HUAWEI Mobile Connect - 3G Modem, COM4
Ports: HUAWEI Mobile Connect - 3G PC UI Interface (COM5)
Driver HUAWEI Incorporated, 2011-12-30, 2.0.6.718
USB controllers: HUAWEI Mobile Connect - Bus Enumerate Device
Driver HUAWEI Technologies CO., LTD, 2012-04-23, 2.6.2.3125

Modem doesn't show up as a CD/USB-drive either.

Have tried the following:
1. A new dashboard (Dashboard_HMS_UTPS23.002.08.03.143)
Gives the following message:
Communication: COM5
Connection status: CONNECTED
Current version:
Target version: UTPS23.002.08.03.143
IMEI: ERROR_IMEI
Download mode: Force Download

2. Huawei Modem Flasher v1.6
Gives the following message:
File ini found
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
N_PORT=COM5
D_PORT=COM5
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reading info at COM5 ...FAIL
No response from COM Port

3. Update with E392_E398_firmware_11.433.57.00.260.B757
Gives following message:
Error Code:13, Update failed.
Modems com port is found, but update obviously not ok.

4. RevSkills Read of software version:
0D 14 39 78 30 30 42 2D 53 43 41 51 44 42 5A
4D 2D 33 30 33 35 30

9x00B-SCAQDBZM
-30350

Sorry but this doesn't elighten me that much, somebody?

Some software finds the modem, some doesn't...

Modem is probably bricked by erroneous firmware update or unlocking procedure, don't you think?

Can anybody give me a hint of if it's possible to bring this modem to life again?

Hi! Funny you mention this. I have the same exact problem with the ****ty Huawei drivers. My resolution was the following.

Download the Huawei Drivers (4.25.18) [Courtesy @VVE].
Then try to install them...but they will not be shown/enlisted AFAICT.

Then download and run the DC-Unlocker Client. Try to scan a few times and it should eventually enable (the already) installed drivers. However, they will not be automatically enlisted next time, so you may need to repeat this procedure. I have no idea what causes this erratic problem, and why the hell the modem doesn't get automatically enumerated next time one plugs it in...

They should show up in Device Manager as hidden, so you need to enable hidden drivers view. Preferably permanently.

Code:
FC - Application Interface 12d1:1442 FcSerial.sys
FC - PC UI Interface 12d1:1442 FcSerial.sys
I have no idea why it uses those Flash Card drivers and not something from Huawei!??

There's probably nothing wrong with your modem, only the drivers. Another possible problem could be that it's stuck in DIAG mode, which uses different drivers again. You should have at least 2 interfaces when plugged in, in normal circumstances. And if there's a SD card, there should be a 3rd one.

Finally, I also can't get Mobile Partner to recognize my router modem (E589)...

No luck with the drivers mentioned. Not even after complete manual removal of all drivers remotely connected to USB modems, brand whatsoever, before installation of the drivers.

Can I force the modem back from diag mode if this is the case?

Looking again at your OP, I see that you have "Modems: HUAWEI Mobile Connect - 3G Modem, COM4". So you should use THAT port and not COM5.

And since you seem to have successfully used RevSkills, to read something, I guess it was using the DIAG port, or COM5 (whatever that is). Since those ports talk a different language (raw hex) and not modem AT commands. Finally use NIRSOFT's USBDeview or DevManView (or proper Device Manager view) to find more details about what drivers/ports you're connected to. You can save the details of selected Devices. Post pastebin link here!

if in DIAG mode, you should be able to use QPST (or some other tools) to reset modem.

Look at your modem's LED indicator: how does it blink?
If blinking pattern is "1s on/1s off" then device is in Download Mode (DWM).

LED is 1s on 1s of, ie download mode. QPST also defines the modem being in download mode.

E:V:A: (Haven't made enough posts yet, ie can't past a link, so I took the liberty to paste it in here.)

N.B Have fiddled some with other 4G modems therefore different ports now, COM6 rep. COM7.

Can you tell how to change mode from download to diag mode? Tried reset device (QPST Memory Debug Application), but no difference, still in download mode. Should I try to load firmware from within QPST? Don't know how to extract firmware from exe-file though...

Can you connect to any of those interfaces (COM ports) as a modem?
I mean, use a terminal program to try to find a port that can accept AT commands. The easiest way to check is by sending these commands:

Code:
AT
ATE1
ATI
The last one should tell you the name of your modem.

When you get that, post the output of this:
Code:
at^setport?
at^setport=?

at^getportmode
at^portlock?
Finally, in case your device is stuck in factory mode, you could also try:
Code:
at^sfm=0
But I have no idea if this command is available to you, or even have anything to do with your problem...

Persistent staying in DWM is indication of several problems with modem's internal data. You are facing either the massive NVRAM corruption (or even total data loss) or result of unfinished flashing etc., i.e. vital firmware data missing. No ports with AT commands or QCDM support are available in DWM.

Second case is more simple to deal with. You may try to flash it with original compatible firmware with help of Huawei Flasher in Resurrect mode. Don't try to execute "Read Modem Info" function - it will not work since it's not supported in DWM.
In first case (NVRAM corruption) you have to find a source of good NVRAM content (QCN backup) somewhere and put it to your modem with QPST. Backup can be obtained from another, working u-12 or any other MDM9200-based USB modem-donor (worse case). After that procedure, you will get a working, maybe simlocked, modem with donor's IMEI and radio calibration data: not the best result, but good start for futher repair actions.

You are free to use Huawei Flasher for that.

Case closed, but it would be interesting to hear what exactly this resurrection mode does, that can't be done manually?

DC-Unlocker will do the trick. Not affiliated by them, but used them several times with success. Cost will be like 1 or 2 beers ...
