Can i use a serial-usb (mini usb) cable?
And instead of connecting a seperate supply for B+, use the #1 pin?

Motorola RAZR, RIZR, Z8 mini-USB Charger pinout and wiring @ pinouts.ru

#1-- +5v dc
#2-- usb data
#3-- usb data
#4-- not used
#5 ground

Which ones of the data can I use for Tx and Rx?

Is not the same, that mod is for Motorola Phones only

This is how I analyse it:
The cable and driver is basically a USB to Serial converter.
Hence on the 'phone end' of the cable, if I cut the connector off and use the wires based on the protocols assigned to them.....will it not equate to be the same as the procedure reccommended in this thread (for the other cable type)?

This is another way to flash your chinese phone, just put the pin out of your phone on terminal, this diagram i build works to me very well.....

I do not understand what this diagram is explaining about china phone pinouts i.e. rx and tx. Could you please make it clearer.
