The question mark mean your hard drive is without OS or blank.

You need to start mac hold command and r

You will see the padlock screen, you will need a bute force device to attack this lock.

for efi password i had change a few efi chip and its tricky at the same time some chips
are not programed well or there is something that made them not compatible.
from my experience i had same problem with 2 different machines
a 2011 imac 21 inches and with a 2010 macbook air.
after replacing the efi chip machines staring taking longer to boot up.
and some times when power bottom has been press machines doesnt respond.
thats my note for this threath i will tray to get more into brute force wich is a lil complicated....

To unlock efi you can change the efi chip but this is only for highly skilled repair techs. The easiest way is to buy a brute force machine that tries all the codes from 0000-9999 . I bought mine off of ebay for $60 USD. It was a ****sy 3.1 pre programmed with the software on it. It tries all possible combinations so it make take up to 48 hours if your code begins with an 8 or a 9. Or it can take less than 4 hours if your code begins with a 0.

If it's icloud locked after connecting that machine to network it will lock again. Only solution is to read efi and to edit it. All these bruteforce tools for end users who do not have any clue what they do.

The reason why some people get their MAC locked again after unlocking, because your Mac is still in the last owner's icloud account.

To avoid this problem.

After unlock
1) Must do a NVRAM reset.
2) Format the hard drive booting from USB or DVD ( cannot format the drive you are booting from )
3) Install new OS, at the first time OS start you can assigned your MAC to your own itune account and enable icloud to your own icloud account.

You are now the only owner in icloud. ( not possible to have one device in 2 icloud account)
