RSIM 12 - Update iOS via iTunes?

If I am currently unlocked under iOS 11 and I use iTunes to update to iOS 12.4, will my phone remain unlocked? If not, will I be able to unlock again with RSIM 12?

If this cannot be done, what can I use to unlock after updating to iOS 12.4 via iTunes?

Sprint iPhone 8 Plus

A few months ago I upgraded 6S from 9.3.3 to 12.x via iTunes and it still unlocked. It could not be done via WiFi due to the old firmware in the phone, just need to use upgrade, not restore function.

That phone has been unlocked via ICCID method and upgrade procedure doesn't do anything with activation ticket, stored in phone filesystem.

Thank you for the input.

So it sounds like if I upgrade/update iOS via iTunes, my unlock should remain in effect as it will not affect the activation ticket?

Any further input if this will be safe and retain the unlock? (unlocked with ICCID with rsim 12). I was considering updating to 12.4 via iTunes before Apple stops signing the update.
