Can anyone explain the basics? - GSM-Forum

Hello,

I'm interested in mobiles and programming, but I can't find information on:

1. 'map' files. What is a map file?
2. 'testpoint'. All I know is that it's for unlocking.
3. the difference between 'eeprom' and 'flash' or what is a flash?

I hope someone can explain me this stuff or knows some sites with infos.

testpoints generaly are for connecting test equipment
for unlocking you can use only eeprom tespoints

eeprom and flash are the same. flash is used for big memory eeprom for small.

eeprom is used because it alows independent byte programing when main flash memory dont. you need to erase entire sector.

because phome manufacturers were quite dumb some time ago they used falsh for software only, now probably they also use it for ringtones and similar stuff.
