Refer to http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=259170. From my understanding (to be confirmed), DCT4 PPM file is not encrypted, they are merely compressed. |

Member: 142832 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 1 | yes, most newer ppm's are NOT encrypted. you can decompress it somehow or use nokia's internal decompressor and dump it over a FBUS patched firmware http://www.gsmfreeboard.com/forum/sh...d.php?t=125478 |

Member: 174847 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 5 | Thanks g3gg0, Its just that some people reference the permanent memory file as PM or PMM... will i think my understanding is right. What i have looking for is any help in decoding this . The file if opened in a text editor is broken into sections, with each section containing one or more entries. I know section 35 is the security code, fine no problem . But what are the other sections and what coding they are in (7Bit, 8Bit?) Thanks |

Member: 7653 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 823 | yes thefoxes, you are thinking on PM (PMM) which is permanent memory. it is not crypted (on a whole) and can read easilly with twister flasher or JAF box. this gives you the text file to open. the sections, are many things. calibration data, network specific data, user stored data (for example your ringtone selection is stored to the PM. even SP_lock data is stored to the PM. basically it is the phone eeprom, if you know what that does. the guy says PM!=ppm because PMM and PPM are two very different thing. PPM is post programmable memory. it is language data, text string, inbuilt ringtone. these guy are all working on PPM, not PMM so they are no help to you best to just read all PM from the phone and look through it with notepad |

Member: 174847 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 5 | Thanks Dave, Yes i have the PM file and can read in a text viewer. I know the section 35 is the security code, the SMS section is in this file but the coding for fits the stanadrd GSM SMS coding (PDU coding type). What i am after is if somebody outthere knows what each section in the PM file does and what it is and then try and decifer each section. A. it would be nice to get an SMS back that i lost. B. Its a great project i am working on for University. Surley it could be possible to extract this a read with a developed application Thanks |

Member: 7653 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 823 | i did not realize it was encoded man. in the dct3 nokia, you could just read the eeprom and open file in hex editor. in there was displayed the sms messages (including recent deleted) stored in plain text... |
