This is not md5. Looks like custom made encryption. It will be hard to guess.

This looks like a passwd or shadow file, $1$ means salted md5, so as previously suggested, it could be cracked with john the ripper or oclhashcat in days.

yes this is a salted md5 but as you see the salt being k2I9hJe4 is constant.

i don't have an uber fast cracking pc, i think i should post this on paid wanted product.
