I heard there was security work around on coolrunner 1.
I couldent find anything on this though.

My friend, Software developer on gadgets nowadays don't need that kind of security as they have secured their software's security thru rsa, des and aes - crypted in the dongle itself

...and forget about simple hack methods

take a look on BB5, if you don't believe, RSA is NOTHING there... If you wish to protect your dongle better, jsut write your own CPU and put it inside this CoolRunner or any other CPLD with some HW logic, I don't think it will be hacked soon, even if someone will get jedec file for it....

I know,coolrunner ii has more than adequate security on its own without software/smartcard encryption.
It has been out around five years an i cant find a single mention anywere of anyone extracting the contents from a secured coolrunner ii successfully.
I have read that this was not the case with the previous coolrunner.
But cant find any detailed info on it.

I have no plans or delusions of hacking any bb5 box.The fact that ppl will try and
in(A LOT OF) time Probably will succeed is intresting.
Prehaps more likely is jedec file gets leaked an reversed first?

before studying reverse engineering, study engineering!
boole algebra, digital systems, after that ISE --->verilog,vhdl,

You misunderstand me.i am no programmer nor engineer,
Given the time i would study,but with 2 unrelated jobs
an 2 children thats not gonna happen to soon or at all unfortunately.

I was just speculating on the angles ppl would approach if they wanted to hack the bb5 boxes,
Software security,ppl talk about cracking all the time,smart cards is not entirely relevant,
So that leaves the xillinx that they use.

I can find nothing regarding attempts on the security they have,successfull or other wise,
The reason being is it probably is that ****ing good!

I just posted on the off chance somebody could show any info to the contrary(eg,previous coolrunner)
As i have found nothing any were else.

BB5 box hacking i think also is very unlikely as the ppl on this forum that possibly could,
have already sussed out the theory properly(eg,X-shadow)and can make there own boxes!
I just see box makers in the future leaning towards xillinx cplds more in future.

Anyways out of my depth here i suppose,
Next time i will post in "gsm trade speculation "section
