    What is an RSA lock?
    It is a cryptographic lock named after its inventors, Rivest, Shamir, and Adleman.
    Just like DES - another encryption algorithm
    Pls dont ask me what is DES ... find out

    RSA= Really Stupid Answer

    Its what you get when you ask sw to bypass it, or when you ask stupid questions (but questions not on SE phones).

    Serious: RSA is a software-protection Sony-Ericsson implanted in their latest firmware to prevent unofficial software (like DIVlpt) being able to modify the software in the phone. In other words, RSA prevented it being possible to flash, or reset locks etc.

    RSA - assymetric cryptographics algorithm (invented by Rivest, Shamir, and Adleman - RSA).
    RSA uses different keys for ciphering and deciphering, so its easy to restrict crypto work to only one direction.
    Here in SE phones (and in Siemens too) it enables multilevel protection mechanism - you easily can flash RSA-signed content into phone without passing authorisation but putting any un-signed (untrusted) content either disabled at all (for firmware area) or restricted by authorisation (for FS / GDFS areas).
    In other words with use of RSA phome manufacturer enables everyone else (service center, end user, etc) to flash original, manufacturer approved content into the phone without passing any authorisations.
    For AVR phones enabling RSA disables old boot authorisation algorithm to make RSA more secure, but it was incorrectly implemented and now can be easily removed.
    For newest ARM phones RSA looks like to be the only one method of bootloading, so any removing of RSA cert. in the flashes only improves protection
