Nubia Z7 Mini touch problem after digitizer replacement

The wife dropped her Z7 Mini and cracked the screen. Strange thing was the touch stopped working all together even though there was only two small cracks in the glass.

I ordered a complete new digitizer with glass and frame which arrived yesterday. Replaced it last night and it has the same problem.

I'm pretty stumped as to what the problem can be. I checked all the connectors which seem fine and I very much doubt a brand new digitizer is faulty.

The touch actually does work but in a very limited area.

Does anyone have any idea on what the problem can be?

I can send it back to the manufacturer and hope they'll repair it under warranty, but since I cannot unlock the screen, all my wife's personal data is on the phone which I don't want anyone getting their hands on.
