Hello guys i'm countering the same issue with an iPhone 5, the first thing i did is to replace battery but still error 1671, do you have any suggestion ?

Check your iTunes updater log and post it here, there is always some useful info about what is going on with your device by restoring.

try it with anything else but windows XP!!

Check for communication issues
If you see error 1671, iTunes is downloading necessary software. Wait for the download to finish and try again. To see how long the download should take, you can click the down arrow in the upper-right corner of iTunes.
