Iphone 3gs data recovery problems...

Greetings all!

I have a problem involving an 32GB iPhone 3GS I promised my friend I would recover data from.

For the last 6 months it had problems charging and was chargable only thru USB via PC. Unforunately no sync was made so I could get a backup with Wondershare software.
The battery is now completely dead and the PC doesn't recognize it when it is plugged in.
I was hoping to get it into data mode - at least to get all the pictures and videos he made, even better if Contacts could get backed up. No such luck.

After doing some googling around, some people mentioned that with a 9V battery you can "jumper cable" the iPhone battery and it could get charged again via USB cable, but I am kinda sceptical whether or not that would burn the data on the phone.

The other thing I found was a kit (Adafruit MintyBoost Kit) I thought I should order. Does anyone have any sorts of experience with it? I wouldn't like to throw money on something that could prove to be useless (even though it's about 30 Euros plus shipping), and since the battery is dead, another battery I tried to replace it with doesn't work either.

Or would you give me any other advice that might be useful for this kinda shannanigan?

Thanks very much in advance.

Cheers from Croatia...
Great forum BTW...

Sorry to Bump but this is kinda urgent...

Excuse me again for bumping the post but would anyone know should I get that Adafruit Battery kit or something else could help for the PC to recognize this dead iPhone?

As I mentioned, a different battery did not help, what about something else?
USB "power jump" on the battery?
Is there any way to trigger this dead iPhone cheating it that it has power as if from a battery?

Ty again...
Kinda urgent...

Best regards.
