I need my O2x1b unlocked - GSM-Forum

Hi, I live in Nova Scotia and I'd bought an O2x1b phone in a moment of desperation at Gatwick ******* in London. I know next to nothing about mobile phones nor the terminology involved. The fellow that sold it to me told me that once I'd returned to Canada that there'd be no problem to get it unlocked and that it would merely entail going to 'a shop' and paying 'a few quid' to have it unlocked. I gullibly fell for it and it turns out that no one here can unlock it. Is there no way to remotely unlock this phone? What is an unlocking cable? Where should I send it if I need to send it back to the UK and how much should I expect to pay for a service like that?
