I am a newb at this, so please bear with me.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S, on a contract with Vodafone in the UK, which I want to unlock to use in other countries PAYG on an extended trip.

Vodafaone have provided me with an unlock code and various sites around tell me how to do it.

But, when I insert a sim from another provider (TIM, an Italian service), my phone does not ask me for a password, nor does it tell me that it is an unaccepted sim.

What it does tell me is that it has connected to the Orange network and that my phone can be used for emergency calls only - which is reasonable, since I don't have an Orange account.

But, I just want to check before I head into Europe, does this mean the phone is already unlocked? (I have had it from new, so I have no reason to suppose that it should already be unlocked.)

I hope someone can help me, please. :-))

enter *#7465625# and U will see simlock status
if unlocked all is off

And, yes, it confirms that the phone is already unlocked, which is great.
