Member: 25604 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | Hi Jackaleman, I have the same phone, on the same net... I am curious if you have had any success in finding a location to have the phone unlocked.... I live west of the GTA... Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a tech that can do the unlock for me as yet... Thanks |

Member: 25604 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | unlock I'll check them out... I'm not familiar with the Pacific Mall... I'll do a search for that.. Markham is not too far off though - I'm in Oakville. Also, I would like to get the firmware updated. The phone is still under warranty, but I have to go to the Eaton's Center store m-f business hours.... That sux.. I have to take a 1/2 day off work to go down there & pay for parking. I'm probably better getting someone at one of these shops to do it, assuming the price is right... Thanks again. |

Member: 25604 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | Thanks! I guess Bongo is a little closer for me. I'm assuming you don't know any in Mississauga... I am looking at the Bongo site. They offer unlocking and flash firmware updating by remote... The unlocking package is $60 but includes the "unlock cable" being shipped to your house... I think this cable is usually $10-$20 on its own. Do you happen to know if the unlock cable is the same thing as the serial interface (RS232) cable that can be used for transferring things like ringtones, etc... If so, this might be the way for me to go as I would like to have that option anyhow... |

Member: 25604 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | @jackal I guess Bongo is doing well... I keep getting voicemail and his box is full... I just called K & K. They say $30 for unlock and won't talk about firmware on the phone but you mentioned $30. So with gas and the 407, that makes about $500..... lol I guess I might be making a road trip today afterall... I'll let ya know how it works out... |

Member: 25604 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | @ Jackal Ok... Made the trip. E18 - lol thx. I was wondering what that was. You couldn't have made it easier for me. Unfortunately, they don't seem to operate on the same principles... Mall Opens at 11. I get there 11:30. Sign says - we'll be back at 12:30. I wait until they show up at 1:15. He then goes in and tells me to wait outside... 10 mins later, someone else shows up and lets me come in. Got the phone flashed to R7A and unlocked - tested on Rogers - no probs. I went to the Rogers outlet to get a pay as you go simcard. $75 plus activation?!?! I say, Rogers told me $75 including activation. "Well, we can charge whatever we want..." This is a Rogers Dealer... ffs. I come home. 2 days later, my 18 month old son decides to play submarine with my phone and puts it in a glass of water.... Phone begins flashing on and off and vibrating... I turn it off.. take battery and sim out and let it dry. Now it won't power up. Aaaarg.... I'm gonna try exchanging it where I bought it... fingers crossed. I have one other solution in the works but don't want to say here until it is done, just in case... |
