Frp

Flash the combo firmware, or get accessibility going, swipe left down or right down, accessibility settings, manage gesture do an open one for overview, i know its already ter but trust that will get you to chrome.
rootjunkysdldotcom
download sidebar, frp bypass, gam 7, shortcut and es.
but get the sidebar last and update es with galaxy app
force stop everything google an samsung, especially setup wizard. install gam 7, use frpbypass, 3 dots top right browser sign in, log in..set up sidebar now if you havent, power down wait 10 seconds an power up, use side to go to settings factory reset and that is that

This FRP method should work for both Tmo and Metro.

Flash full COMBI firmware.

Flash these stock parts only: sboot.img, system.img
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=962021903579480962

Do an FRP unlock by selecting model Samsung-GSM, and also factory reset it from the settings menu.
Finally, reflash it with full stock firmware.

After flashing the full COMBI, don't let it power on (in Odin under Options uncheck the Auto-Reboot), put it in download mode again and flash the stock sboot and system ONLY, then power on. It works tested by a few people.

So does this get us closer to root...?

So I followed the instructions here and turned my TMobile phone into a MetroPCS phone with no LTE, so I am attempting to re-flash the stock FW now.

I am relatively new to Android but doing some development and would prefer root -- are these instructions supposed to get us there?

Here's an easier way to do FRP unlock with one less step than before.
Note:
No need to first flash FULL combi, and also stock sboot.img and system.img
The files below are for Rev-1 firmware, for higher versions you must find and flash a matching revision.
This will not convert to MetroPCS, it will stay Tmobile.

Step 1.
Flash combi with Z3X, by de-selecting both sboot.img and system.img
COMBINATION_TMB_FA70_J327TUVU1AQC3.rar
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=673791459329071035

Step 2.
Do FRP unlock using model J327P, and turn on OEM-Unlock.
Reflash with full stock firmware.
J327TUVU1AQK6_J327TTMB1AQK6_TMB 7.0 Repair Firmware.rar
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=673956719939818405

Enjoy!

j327t1

I have one with J327T1UVS2ARC1, won't flash combo with regular odin, or comsy, or just flashing boot on octopus.

Can't seem to do anything with this thing.

Reason it won't flash is because you have bootloader version 2. The combo file posted here is for bootloader version 1. You need to find combo file J327T1VU2ARC2
