Gather user data via DFU

Hello,

A customer brought me a water damaged iPhone 6, it was getting very hot, and batt pins shorted. After few minutes, saw that audio controller was damaged, and removed it to stop getting so hot, customer only interested in his photos, and after cleaning batt pins measured normally. But only DFU mode.

A coleague said that could extract data from it in that state, at first I didnīt believed, but he actually did in few hours. Flash chip was not desoldered, pcb returned to me exactly same way I gave him. I put red glue on side of pcb, so I know if pcb were removed from back, and it was not. He extracted data from data connector only.

My question is: what kind of cable/adapter/anything he used to get user data? Can someone enlighten me about that?

br

thanks for answering. Iīve tried that, and nothing was found, iMobie says DFU doesnīt work with iPhone 6, only legacy iPhones (3g, 4, itīs based on old exploit method). Also tried Wondershare Dr Phone for iOS, and some others, none could find not even 1 file. And the guy didnīt got contacts, only camera roll pics/videos...

Iīm really curious about how he did, only thing I saw was a black lightning cable, very thick, with something on the end like a serial adapter.
