Legacy Phones (Desire HD) unable to detect COM Port [ solved ]

Hi, There seems to be some problem swithcing to modem mode & detecting the COM port when switching to Modem mode.

Trying to swtich into modem mode ...
Sending oem rtask c

Phone DISconnected

After this drivers are installed as follows.

Qualcomm HS-USB Diagnostics Port (COM 209)
Qualcomm HS-USB NMEA 9002 (COM 211)

But software doesnt detect the COM ports and I am unable to continue unlock process.

Any ideas why this is happening?

You don't need devices from the COM ports, you need to look for modems. You can check your Modems in device manager, or go to Control Panel and check there.

Let me know please, so I can provide further assistance.

Thanks for pointing that out!

I have checked the modem ports and I can see that the modem drivers are installed correctly and the modem is on COM port 208, but its not possible to select this port in the XTCClip software window (even after clicking refresh).

Any ideas?

The only idea I have is to manually change the COM port to a lower value, like 20, etc. You can do this from Control Panel - Modems - select the correct modem and press properties.

Tried this as well, but the software is not finding the com port.

i have set com port to com6, I can communicate with the modem by sendinfg commands etc from modem properties, but xtc software doesnt find or allow me to choose com port.

Trying to swtich into modem mode ...
Sending oem rtask c
Phone DISconnected

Tried on two different PCs with same result.

Are you using Windows 7 or Windows XP please? The COM port is not in the list even after pressing the refresh button in the XTC2Tool?

Im using Windows 7 32 Bit, also tried on 64bit with same result.

Ive also tried the same operation on a Desire S (Saga) with same problem. COM port remains blank (even after installing drivers and clicking refresh).

Thanks for your help!

Whoops! Schoolboy error!!

That's solved it!! Thanks.

Just managed to S-off, Unlock and change CID on the Saga, allthough I needed to click the s-off button, change cid and unlock buttons twice for some reason.

It might also help to add a status bar as the software appears to do nothing at first.

Thanks for you great support!

EDIT: Have now also managed to do the same with several Desire HD's (without needing to click the buttons twice, however I notice when you change phones and connect next phone in Fastboot mode you need to close down the software and reopen it in order to start work on next phone.
