One M8 will not boot into any OS

I have used XTC2Clip on various One M8, M9 and Desire phones without problem, but currently having trouble with a M8 phone which will not boot into any OS. All XTC2 functions work OK and the phone sort of works except that when booting to a OS it hangs on the 'HTC' logo and sometimes on the 'htc one' logo or just a black screen with slight background illumination.
I've tried various 401 RUUs and even reverted to the original O2 206 RUU, but with the same result.
Can anyone help with this and suggest what might be causing the problem?

Thanks for your reply.

How do I check the hardware other than changing the main board? Is there a emmc fix?

There is no EMMC fix, as it's a hardware failure (in case it is).
Can you boot to recovery?

Yes I can boot to recovery, stock or custom (TWRP). In fact all functions seem to work except boot to OS.

There is no evidence of water damage by looking inside, but I've not checked further by peeling back the copper foil from the main board.

My daughter used this phone for a few months after I changed it from O2 UK to WWE 4.16.401.13. She then had a few auto shutdowns which were re-bootable, but eventually the OS would not reboot.
I've checked the battery voltage at full charge and it seems OK, but I will change the battery if all else fails.
