MS Intellimouse Explorer for BlueTooth install problem

Hi, I would appreciate any help you can give me.

I bougth a mouse [as above] second hand, however the cd did not come with it. I have managed to get all te files [I think], however I am having problems getting it to work

I am using Windows XP SP1

I installed the Windows XP Bluetooth patch -> q323183_eng.exe
Next I installed thee Bluetooth Wireless Desktop Drivers.

When I try to pair the mouse to the dongle, it shows the scanning screen then almost instantly goes to not found, try again. I have an extra icon in the control panel, called Wireless link. If I run that, when it starts it gives the normal dialog, plus a warning box with no writing in it.

I then tried SP2 Beta, and had pretty much the same result, only now when I start the Wireless Link thing, the error box says the Bluetooth service is not running. I then went to Admin Tools->Serives and looked for a service with something to do with wireless links or bluetooth. I can't see either.

Please could someone who has this hardware help as I really want this mouse to work ['cos it just looks so damn fine]. Thanks, Derek.

You don't need M$ drivers to get your mouse & keyboard to work. Just download the WIDCOMM drivers... (links and instructions can be found within threads of this forum). The M$ cd just adds customization, mainly, to the thumb buttons of your BT mouse.
I suggest you start reading those posts !

Edit: Should I also remove the q323183_eng.exe i.e. the Bluetooth patch?

Manged to get the mouse working now - FANTASTICALLY BIG YAY

It didn't work exactly liike Jon Scraff said, but that installed the Bluetooth service, and then the Windows XP Bluetooth update and Intellipoint 4.9 worked. It apears to be using the WIDCOMM drivers, but nothing happens if I click on the My Bluetooth Places icon, and the system tray icon just says "Bluetooth device not found".

I managed to pair my P800 through the Wirless Link icon in the control panel, but it tried installing a "Bluetooth Periferal Driver".... What is this driver, and how do I get it please!?! Thanks for eveyones help so far....

vvv Spoke too soon..... BIG PROBLEM NOTICED.... Every 10-20 seconds the the whole of windows freezes.... any suggestions; I have tryed making to computer not descoverable, disabling incomming connections seams to help. I have also tryed unplugging the bluetooth dongle. I have noticed that the dongle is back to using the MS drivers; if I try to use the WIDCOMMs, it just doesn't work at all [grrr]. There doesn't aprear to be any processes that are using lots of processor power. Any ideas........?


Oh yeah.... works like a little dream now.... Amazingly big thanks to everyone who helped [especially John and Jon Scafe who are both truly great people].

Mouse now works and I can send files around between a P800 and P900.... what more could I ask for!?!?

If anyone else has problems with the MS Bluetooth mouse, this is what I suggest;

Restart between each step....

1) Remove everything bluetooth [including windows bluetooth patch].
2) Install WIDCOMM drivers as of Jon Scafes site [see thread on WIDCOMM]
3) Install Windows XP Bluetooth patch
4) Install Intellipoint 4.9 drivers
5) Pair the mouse in Control Panel -> Wireless devices.
Mouse should then work.
6) Install Windows XP SP2 Beta [or XP2 when its finally released ]

Finally manged to get everything working perfectly [has been the whole day, so I guess its ok]...

Here is how I did it :>

1) Remove everything bluetooth [including windows bluetooth patch].
2) Restart
3) Install WIDCOMM drivers as of Jon Scafes site [see thread on WIDCOMM]; don't restart after the driver install.
4) Install Windows XP Bluetooth patch
5) Install Intellipoint 4.9 drivers
6) Pair the mouse in Control Panel -> Wireless devices.
Mouse should then work.
7) Restart
8) Install Windows XP SP2 Beta [or XP2 when its finally released]; make sure you archive the files [the beta won't let you not do this]
9) Copy the c:\Windows\inf, c:\Windows\System, c:\Windows\System32 to some other part of the hard drive; note some files from c:\Windows\System32 won't nessacerily copy, just do as many as possiable
10) Remove SP2
11) Pair any other devices; if it asks for drivers, point it to the copy of the c:\windows\inf folder. You may need to search for any other files it asks for, but they are usually in the copy of c:\Windows\System32 [try the drivers folder in there].

The Bluetooth file transfer program can be grabbed from the copy of c:\windows\System32 folder. You need to copy fsquirt.exe and xpsp2res.dll
