MSI Btoes INF Problem

Hey everyone!!

I was using my MSI Btoes with my Motorola v600 without any probs. Then I had to re-format my PC and now it will not install at all. The bluetooth logo stays red and I get a weird error once I connect the dongle to the PC (error is attatched). The device does not appear on the device manager once this error has occured, but appears as USB device if it is connected while windows is being installed.

I tried installing it using MSI software and following the guide(version 2) on:

http://www.jonscaife.com/

I have a security code and followed the instructions word for word, using both methods.

All in all I've reformated 8 times to try and fix the problem, but no luck.

I dunno what to do now. Any help will be much appreciated

My system:

Windows XP Pro

Cheers

What drivers were you using when it worked?

Have you opened the btwusb.inf to make sure it has not somehow become corrupt?

This is not the first time I've heard of this error, but I haven't solved it yet. Its been eating away at me for some time, and its about time it was solved. Does anyone have any better ideas than me?

I have attached my copy of btwusb.inf as a .txt so you can check if there are any differences.

Good luck

Jon

Also,

What do you mean by "I have a security code"?

When you tried the second method, did you use the pre-patched files?, and if so, were you using the IBM drivers? I don't know if the pre-patched files would be compatible with the MSI drivers, but I would very much doubt the 2 would be happy together.

Answer

After 6 weeks I finally have the answer to get rid of that inf error message you and a couple of hundred others have been getting.

Before you install the software unplug your LAN or modem/DSL/Cable from the internet. That simple....

Since bluetooth device's have not been offically certified by Microsoft windows update automaticlly downloads a update from MS. Bluetooth devices from third party manufacturers have 2nd priority over MS thus the MS update tries to update your bluetooth manufacturers update with no luck.

Microsoft in their wisdom I hope that makes sense

Fixed!!

Hi guys

Thanks a lot for your help.

I actually managed to get it working by forcing windows to install the driver, I used 'Add Hardware' from control panel and chose an option 'Have Disk'. This forced it to look where the drivers were extracted and selected the appropriate device. It finds them and installs fine.

The IBM drivers ones crashed when the PC paired with my V600, so i used my MSI drivers instead, no problems so far.

Phill: I'll remember to disconnecting my modem next time I reinstall Windows.

leemperor: The security code was for the update I got from the MSI website. Something about an hardware key.

Thanks again

Resolution to change the driver signing policy to warn:

1. From the "Control Panel" select "System" then select the "Hardware" tab
2. Click "Button Driver Signing" to bring up dialog "Driver Signing Options"
3. Select "Warn - Display a message before installing an unsigned file" If you are an Administrator, you have the choice to select "Apply setting as system default"
4. Click "OK" and then click the "Device Manager" button
5. Right click the scanner and select "Update Driver"
6. Install automatically
