Member: 127210 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | Japanese 902SH: Fully Operational! I'm one of those people to foolishly purchased a Japanese Sharp 902SH without first researching how to unlock, or if it could even be done. Then, like most of you, I began searching the vastness of Internet in hopes to find an answer. Hopes rose and fell so quickly when first I thought, "I can unlock using the remote UK service!" Learned that wouldn't work. Then, the SPST software was released, which did nothing for the Japanese 902SH (only creating more headaches when left with the dreaded TEST PROGRAM screen). Then we all heard the story of the Japanese company that would unlock your 902SH, all you had to do was mail your mobile along with the cash - and you problem would be solved. Well, after researching and no-response emails from that Japanese business I figuered, "this isn't going to work either." I began to loose hope and thought I'd wasted all this time and money for nothing. Then I received word about a Hong Kong business's abilty to unlock the 902SH, and oh course, I didn't believe it. I'm an American guy living in Bangkok, Thailand. I went to the shop where I orginally purchased the 902SH and asked about the Honkee Story. Well, to my surprise, the shop owner pulled out a Japanese 902SH, with a Thai sim card, and it was fully operational! I tested it out for 30 minutes to make sure every feature was working properly, and it does! So, I sent my phone off to Jerry Kee... Three days later my 902SH arrived back. And guess what... it works! Finally no more searching, worrying and fretting about it. I posted this to let you know the Hong Kong story is true. I read many people's post bashing the idea when it hadn't been given the proper attention. If you have any questions about my story, the unlock 902SH, etc, post them here and I reply! Thanks everyone! P.S. The only downside to the unlocked 902SH, is nearly everytime I access the menu I receive a notification asking if I want to update from Vondafone. It doesn't get in the way of anything, just a little annoying. I'm working on a way to fix it. Cheers! |

Member: 127210 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | I paid around $350 USD for the Japanese Sharp 902SH, and an additional $200 USD for the unlocking service (expensive, I know). So, with a grand total of $550 USD (and all the headaches surrounding unlocking it), I suggest you buy the unlocked UK version (Sharp 902), unless you really want the Japanese features (Kanji & Kana input, menus, etc.) Or, if you are patient enough to wait a few weeks unlocked versions of the 902SH will go on sale (via ebay and other auction sites). This could be a bit tricky because dishonest people will claim that the 902SH they're selling has been unlocked properly. But, if you do find an site/individual you trust, that's great. Although I think the price will be something like $700 USD. You can save a little money by purchasing the locked version and unlocking the phone yourself by sending it to Hong Kong (soon many other places will be able to unlock. Jerry can't keep that info to himself forever. Gotta love a snitch!). |

Member: 127210 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | Where do go? Why MBK, oh course! Happy to hear about some fellow mate living in the big BKK. Alright, you'll need to venture to MBK's mobile/cell phone floor. There is a certain shop owner you'll need to talk to. His name is Peter, and he owns several of the shops in the Tokyo section of the mobile/cell floor. Out of respect I can't post his number here, but I did sent it to you via email. If you need an further assistance, just let me know. Take care James! |

Member: 29426 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | There is no way around it, basiocally everytime you access the menu, a popup will display telling you to update something, and you have to click NO to get around it, it will not affect the phone in any way, but is annoying as you said. |

Member: 127210 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | MMS/Internet & Mp3 Well, as many of us has encountered while simi-enjoying your unlocked 902SHs - is that it isn't 'fully-unlocked' afterall. When I was handed my 'unlocked' phone back from the shop at MBK (Bangkok's ultra-random shopping eperience), I was so excited to make a call I didn't think to check all the settings. As it stands right now, Mp3 usage is still limited to the secure-Jap verision. MMS/WAP/Internet are still not working. Recieving Bluetooth file is fine, but trying to send them caused the phone to crash and restart. And alas, there is still the over-annoying "Re-provisioning Update." So, should we expect more? Well, it's been said that you can get the BT problem fixed - by sending back to Hong Kong and dishing out another $200. The 902SHs on sale in MBK are probably not BT-unlocked. Try to send a file before buying it to make sure it's working properly. The Mp3 problem doesn't seem to have a solution in sight; neither does the MMS/Internet deliema. The next question we have to ask ourselves is this. "Should we expect new soluntions for our Sharp 902SH?" When most of us fell in love with this wonderous mobile it had just been released by Vodofone Japan. Now, over half a year later, the phone has been re-introduced to Europe and Hong Kong, with frimware that's easily and fully unlockable. So, would we expect further breakthroughs that will unlock our precious 902SHs? Probably not. Anyone agree? |

Member: 151739 Status: Offline Thanks Meter: 0 | I'll be getting my light blue Sharp 902SH with sx813 firmware tomorrow, will try to see if MP3,MMS, and BT works without crashing it. However, unlocks are now available at MBK already ajax, try it since its better than ditching the extra bucks sending it to HK. I'll post my findings around for any of you that might want to know how the sx813 firmware flash goes. Many shops at MBK claims that they got MP3 and MMS working, dunno if anybody tried but I got mine off HK to make it safe. |
