Canon PIXMA printers and alternative Bluetooth dongle
I have great news to people who have Canon PIXMA series printers and would like to use Bluetooth functionality of the printer, but consider buying original dongle (Canon Bluetooth Unit BU-20) a bit expensive ($50 up to $80). I just found out, that Canon PIXMA IP6700d accepts not only the original dongle, but also other Bluetooth dongles (but not all of them). Now I'm using D-link DBT-122 (with stock firmware) and it works perfectly (But you have to use bluetooth extension cable because the dongle does not fit the PictBridge hole - it's just a mm to wide.
I also tried connecting Logitech Bluetooth 2.0 EDR dongle, that was part of DiNovo Media Dekstop 2.0, but this dongle is not accepted and device shows error. I will report findings with other dongles I will have access to. If you have noticed similar possibility of exchanging specific BT dongles for devices (mostly printers), please report - I'm particularly interested in HP printers that support PictBridge port connected dongles for wireless printing. |

Another confirmed working dongle: Trust BT-2400p (Ultra Small Bluetooth 2 USB Adapter). This one is particularly interesting, as it fits nearly completely inside the USB slot and still has a LED to inform about activity. This one is CSR-based; VID: 0A12, PID: 0001

And Canon Pixma MP540 works with Digitus DN-3018 Bluetooth dongle. This dongle is also very intersesting since it is a class 1 adapter and costs only 10 euro in Germany. A USB extension cable is needed because this dongle does not fit in the PictBridge hole either. I use a cable of 30 cm (0.85 euro).
