Wynsak,

Will a quick guide help you how get it going? I got mine up and running with the latest GMXT (v4.20.00) from Garmin and it gives a quicker locate. Here goes anyway. I take it you have a copy of Jetmouse's keygen (preferably v1.3).

1) Download GMXT from here:-

http://www8.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=3939

Follow the link "I agree to the above terms and want to proceed to the download page." and download the file.

Download the basemap file and support file from Garmin too (or if you have them, use the existing ones).

2.) Uninstall the existing GMXT from your phone as follows:

Go to Menu/Installations and highlight GMobileXT

Select Options/Remove/Yes

3.) Once the old GMXT is removed do the following:

Connect the phone via USB cable in Data Transfer mode and delete the Garmin Folder on the MicroSD card.

4.) Install GMXT as follows:

With the phone still connected, install the application (GMXT) first to the removable drive.

Then install the basemap to the removable drive.

Lastly, install the support files to the removable drive.

5.) Disconeect the removable drive and either GMXT will install automatically or navigate to the Garmin/Apps/Symbiam/Res folder and select GarminMobileXT.sis

6.) Start GMXT and follow the prompts to configure the GMXT. When it scans for a bluetooth GPS select cancel.

7.) Go to Settings/About and record the Card ID No.

8.) Start keygen and enter the Card ID No. into the Unit ID text field and click Generate. Highlight the GMXT device unlock code and press Ctrl - C.

9.) Open NotePad and press Ctrl - V. Now you have your unlock code in Notepad. Now a crucial step is to save it. Click File/Save As and select All Files from the Save as type dropdown box. Enter sw.unl in the File name dropdown box. Where you save it to is irrelevant, because you can copy it to the /Garmin/ folder on the microSD card later.

10.) Once you have copied the sw.unl to the /Garmin/ folder on the microSD card, start GMXT and select cancel when it starts to search for a bluetooth device. Select Settings/System/Remote GPS and select Assisted - GPS. Then select enable and done.

11.) Once you are at the main menu wait about 5 - 10 minutes for the GPS to acquire signal. When it has acquired signal for the first time, it's pretty quick at getting signal afterward.

The loading of the maps is another story

Wynsak,

Here's the link for the SA mapset. It's a gmapsupp.img in zip format, so you just have to copy it to the /Garmin folder.

Wynsak,

You can optionally create the gmapsupp.unl file and copy it into the /Garmin folder on the microSD card. The voice guidance is part of the support files the you can download from www.garmin.com. Check the following settings in GMXT:- Settings/Audio/Voice and select English (American) and Settings/Audio/Voice Prompt is Enabled.

Hope this helps.

hello fuggle,

thanks for he brief tutorial. I was on the verge to giving up upgrading to 4.20 from 4.10. But I have done it, and ... so far, I can see the same ****ty painful route planning interface, same sloooow map drawing, same snail-speed route calculation / recalculation, and obvious improvements to the speed of browsing the menus. So, it is pretty good for such a crap application .

You were saying about AGPS feature ? Is AGPS some sort of lo-fi version of WADGPS ? Anyway, how to enable it ?
I only have 2 options at Settings/System/Remote GPS, and they are:

use bluetooth gps
use attached/ builtin gps

hint me!
thanks

Go to: Tools- settings- general- positioning- positioning methods and select agps. On E90 you have to upgrade your software to get agps.

thanks,

I didnt realize AGPS is E90-specific. Tried to find it on my E61 with no luck. However, I did find some interesting option called "network based positioning" that is checkable along with "bluetooth gps". Had no idea this kind of positioning was available by default in nokias. Cool

keloggs,

AGPS means Assisted GPS which refers to the built-in GPS of the device (in this case the E90). The E61 network based positioning uses (and please correct me if I'm wrong) the cellular towers of the network you are subscribed to triagulates your position by means of echo-location or pinging of the towers. None of the network companies will tell you this but the odds are that the towers transmit latitude and longitude co-ordinates for relative accurate locations of phones in a cell. Be careful though using this method, as you would have to find out if there are cost implications from your service provider for using this feature.
