Recovering a dead k800
Hi,
I just bought a k800i on ebay, and instead of receiving a phone with random freezes, I got a brick. It is detected only by the pc if I press 2+5, won't give any indication it is charging (not even on the infrared port), and won't turn on. I tried recovering the EROM, and even had success once, after a few tries: Code:
Press "5" and "2" keys, hold them together and plug DCU60 USB cable. Phone Connected... Detected: DB2020: A1 Series Flash ID: 0x897E - Supported EROM CID Detected: 52 Status:3 EROM Update Ok! All Done! - Time:00:00:02 Code:
Connect and Power ON phone. Phone Connected... Detected: DB2020: A1 Series Trying set speed on: 9600 Error: EsB Code:
Press "5" and "2" keys, hold them together and plug DCU60 USB cable. Phone Connected... Detected: DB2020: A1 Series Error: EROM CL Wrong Response! Can anyone help me? |

I'm not sure at all - I don't have another phone with a compatible battery. I'll check with a multimeter when I get home. But I left it charging for at least 4 hours, so it should have some charge, and the charger works well with my k850.

It is probably fully charged, as the multimeter shows nearly 5v, and I can also see that there is power on the phone terminals when I have the power cable connected.
I'm guessing it is probably beyond repair now, right? |

Things are weirder now. I got it to show a Sony Ericsson logo by removing and reinserting the battery while pressing 2+5 and keeping the dcu-60 cable connected. Unfortunately it just hangs there, and isn't properly detected by the pc, shows up as a usb composite driver that isn't working properly. I don't know if I'll try to shut it down, or leave it in this hung mode "forever".

Well, now things have improved a lot! Suddenly the phone was recognized when I inserted it pressing 'C', so I reflashed it to the latest K800 CID52 firmware (R1KG001), and unlocked it. The only problem now - it won't use the keyboard when I try to enter the sim code. Entering flight mode (or normal mode without a sim) and entering the service menu lets me test the keyboard, and it seems to be ok, every key works, but at the sim code screen it just recognizes the "ok" key.
Now what? OOOPS - the codes are asked - but with the screen area writing white on white. Doh. Inserting the right code lets me enter flight mode properly. |

No, it just was showing no asterisks when I typed the pin. After the first time it defined a theme and now seems to be working well. I also found out that some of the problems where because of a bad battery connection, some times it will disconnect if the cover is open and need reseating.

Bad news. I was away one week, on holiday, and the first day the k800 started resetting, powering off, and just hanging with a white screen - WSOD, from the symptoms. Now it won't turn on again. The problem is that it already has version R3A022, and I was never able to flash it (EROM) with success. Any ideas?

After one month at SE, the phone was returned to the shop Friday, with the indication that it is a software problem, and since the phone was sold in the UK and I am in PT they (SE) won't fix it. Very nice of them wasting one month of my time like that.
The shop technician will try to flash it today (I hope). There was one difference with the phone - when I sent it it wouldn't turn on at all, now it hung at a white screen. Maybe there is still hope it will be shop flashable. |
