hi

read somewhere on the forum that if the mep has 001, 002 or 003 then it's old security. if the mep has 004 or 005 then its new security.

It's not a true.
for eg. all the o2 phones have the same mep new and old security, and its a mep-06424-002.
New secirity is in models: 9700 96xx 95xx 85xx 82xx 8900beacuse they need a RTAS permission from RIM server to use service software.
And this is new security not a /03/ in imei.

Wrong!

I had a 8520 as OLD Security

BB 8520 - 355931-03-1241158 - 06814004 <- OLD SECURITY
BB 9500 - 359484-02-9191676 - 07484007 <- NEW SECURITY

So on the IMEI with xx-03-xx or xx-02-xx is not true

That with MEP could be true but till which is OLD and NEW

So if its true why all newest model up from 9000 from Vodafone have mep-06814-004? except 9520 so all is old security? no!
For other example my old bb 8320 from t-mo us have mep-04107-007 so its new security??

Say @S_R :

How do I find out if my phone has the NEW SECURITY?
If your phone has "03" in the middle of the IMEI then most likely its the new security, e.g. xxxxxx 03 xxxxxxx. For the moment the only TESTED ones that are known to be on the New Security are phones locked to networks: Orange UK, Vodafone India, Bell Canada and Telus Canada.
