X60s EEPROM you treat it as LSI

Locating the X60 connection points

Switch the X60 OFF.

You should have downloaded the hardware Maintenance Manual already, if you have not done so,

It is best to Right Click on the link above then Save "Target as" that way you will have a copy of the PDF file on your PC.

Once you have your HMM search the manual for "Removing and replacing a FRU"

Scroll down to the section on Keyboard, remove the keyboard and the top frame around the keyboard.

In the Hardware Maintenance manual scroll down to System Board, follow the instructions in the manual to remove all the other FRUs to gain access to and remove the System Board.

You need to access the pads of the Intel 8356908 chip illustrated below.

Note: SCL is the 3rd pin back from right hand the end, SCL pin is marked RED in the photo below.




GND wire is connected to any of the the metal clips that hold the RAM modules in place, you can to make it easier by wrapping the wire around one of the metal clips which saves you having to hold 3 things in place, just be careful it doesn't come off and touch something else.

Basically you make the X60 functional outside of it's case which includes mounting heat sink and fan on CPU.
You push the sharp probes onto GND SCL SDA or you can wrap the GND wire around the metal clips that hold the RAM, this is the reason you need 2 persons, not enough hands to hold the wires and run the software.

This is not easy, you will need to have the Keyboard and LCD plugged into the system board in such a way that none touch any contacts on the system board, use paper as an insulator to keep things from electrically shorting out, later you will need to plug in the AC adaptor and switch on the TP while holding 3 probes to the GND SCL and SDA points under the system board. Do NOT switch ON the X60 now, that will be done LATER.
The sharpened probes will be used to contact the pads show in the photos above.
