Can a MacBook Pro 13" or 15" Retina display he refurbished?

Anyone who has repaired MacBook Pros or Airs with retina displays knows replacing cracked displays can be costly, but finding a decent quality and reasonably priced older A1502 from 2012-2015 is next to impossible. It's not uncommon to see them sell for over $400 used, making it more economical to just scrap the machine.

Most of the available inventory are salvaged from broken MacBooks of varying condition. The majority have some form of the dreaded stain gate or housings with varying degrees of cosmetic damage such as gouges, dents and abrasions. Unlike iPhone and iPads, there's no information available on refurbishing them, nor are there any shops willing to refurbish them. It's generally agreed that cracked displays cannot be remedied. You live with the crack or replace it.

I have a hard time believing the MacBook panels cannot be refurbished with a new glass. Size doesn't seem to be the factor as a 13.3" MacBook display isn't much larger than the iPad 12.9" display, which is commonly refurbished. The construction of the display maybe a factor, but upon careful observation, the TFT lamination appears to be the same process. In fact, laminating MacBook Retina panels should be easier since it doesn't have a digitizer nor the more complex backlight assembly.

Am I not seeing something here? Can Macbook Retina displays be refurbished
