3310 flash new software program

I'm a newbie here, and have very little knowledge about mobiles. So I was hoping that someone would help me
I was wondering if I could put new software (aka reflash with new software) using the cable schematic from Dejan, and appropriate flash file? or do I need something else?
btw, where should I connect Vpp and Btemp, which are on the schematic?
thanx a lot to anyone who replies ...

Step-by-step instructions in German are on http://www.gsm4ever.de/ for example. There's also the possibility to translate these pages through google.

Dejan flasher schematic will work on your 3310. For more information use the search function and read and learn a lot ... if you get stuck somewhere don't hesitate to ask.

thanx nsm-1.
but still I don't know where to connect btemp an vpp, which are on the schematic
And, as far as I understood, for updating software I (only) need this flash cable, mbus cable, flash file, that rollis flash writer and that FAID program. Right?
I guess it won't be too complicated...

Hi,

for DCT-3 phones (except 3210) you don't need VPP.

Model 3210 has only 2.4 V battery, I suppose it doesn't generate the needed VPP (5 Volts ?) internally and needs VPP connected.

BTEMP is AFAIK only for automatic power up when flashing, you don't need to connect it when you power up the phone by hand when flashing. At least I have never connected BTEMP to one of my phones.

If you need to know where to connect those lines there are lots of pinout galleries on the net (i.e. on http://www.nokia-zone**** there is an image file containing pinouts for almost all present phones) ... or just ask google for "pinout +3310 +nokia" ... it should inform you well

You'll need:
  • Dejan flasher interface for parallel port and cable/connector for your phone.
  • A MBUS cable. There are several different types, I'd recommend a MBUS only cable/interface.
  • A flasher program for DCT-3 phones (i.e. Rolis).
  • A program to update FAID (i.e. Rolis Tool 1.9).
  • A flash file (of course ).
  • A computer ...

I think that should enable you to flash your phone.

Make a full backup of your phone first !!!
Be sure the backup is OK (view it with a hex-editor or similar to check if it doesn't contain only FFs etc.)

ok.. so lets see what I have and what I need...
computer
Rolis Tool
rolis flasher
lpt flasher / mbus cable (will get soon)
flash file v.579 (1200kb)
Is there any other tool, like rolis, to update this FAID, since rolis doesn't work on win nt?
And do you think that this flash file is ok, since it is so large? I read that they shouldn't be over 70kb.
thanx in advancee

My 3310 v5.79 MCU+PPM_B file is 1'900'544 bytes.
My 3310 v5.79 MCU is 1'241'944 bytes.
My 3310 v5.79 PPM_B is 590'472 bytes.

You can try ...
  • Jordik Tool 3.21
  • Rolis Nokia Tool 1.5b / 1.7b / 1.8
  • EEPROM Tools 3.1
for setting FAID etc., but I don't know if they work under NT. I'd recommend Windows 98 for flashing and unlocking stuff anyway (although I'd NOT recommend Windows 9x for anything else ...).

You need at least a MCU and a PPM file (or a file containing both MCU+PPM) to update you phone successfully or you'll get in trouble.

Don't know who told you that flash files should not be > 70 k but that seems nonsens to me.

I'm relieved now
My PPM & MCU files are about the same size as yours, so there shouldn't be any problems.
I downloaded a few flash programs, also all of the ones you suggested, but still I didn't find a decent one that would work. I'll have to make a dual boot, just for flashing and unlocking, with win98
Could you please tell me just the adresses from where and to where I should flash? For MCU is 200000-400000?
and for PPM?
So far you have been a great help to me, and I am very greatful. Thanks again.
Is there any way I can give you "credits" on this forum?

For addresses beam to http://www.nokia-zone****, dd69 has a list of "Flash-Addresses" for many phones including 3310.

About "credits" - don't know ... anyway credits is not what I'm after ... I learned a lot through this board and hope to receive help in the future when I'll need it so I try my best also to help ... only that way the board will work in future

BUT: Many questions can be answered simply by using SEARCH function (and brain ) ... so everyone should try this first, of course only if brain is available ...

I didn't even think that you are after credits. And you're right, a person certanly can learn a lot on this forum, just sometimes there are many unknown phrases & words, so I have to ask
I already installed win98, most of the programs work, but I didn't get the cables yet (should be in the next few days) so I can't start flashing yet
I'll definetly let you know how it went
