Hi Suy, and Hi Syed,

Suy,
I visited that site http://www.gsmarena.com/
i had to go to another part of it,
the older Nokia phones, at the bottom.
I couldn't find the same one,
but the most similar are the two end ones,
3110 and 2110 but mine has a smaller display,
and slightly different button layout.
( i will see if i can post a pic ..)

Suyed,
I dunno if they all use the same charger, this
battery is (just removing it ... )

6 volt Nickel-MH Nokia original battery.

Surprise ...
I removed the 'SIMM' card, a big old one, and
underneath on the phone i found this number:

NOKIA Type: NHE-5NX
MADE IN GERMANY

So i guess that is the model number.
Didn't find that number on their site though ...

I'm going to see if Google has any info on it,
Regards John

Found this through google from an ebay advert ...
Doesnt show the charger, but i assume thats the small
plug at its base,

Its quite old, if i had to guess i would say somwhere
between 1992 and 1995 but i'm not a good guesser !!

Lets see if this pic comes out ok ... John

Yes! I know this model! It's a very old model! The charger don't work from oder model of Nokia like 5110 , 3210, 3310 or something like that! The charger conector it's diferend! This model of Nokia have 2 version: NHE-5SX model Nokia 1611 end other it's your version NHE-5NX model Nokia 1610

Hi Suy,

yes it is pretty old. Not as old as i thought, its 1996
according to another Nokia site.

Yes the charger fitting is different to the later models
and the voltage on this one is 6 volts, the newer ones
are 3 volts, or three and a half volts i think.

I have been charging it at about 100 to 200 mA using an
old low voltage power supply that i have, i would like
to get the right fitting so that i can make a proper
battery charger. I am a bit worried that the small round
fitting on it may not be the charging point, because it
makes the phone go 'beep' when i apply voltage, but maybe
its supposed to beep ?

I dunno maybe it beeps to indicate its on charge ?

I got worried and didn't apply any more voltage when it
beeped, but then i don't know what it does in the normal
way on the proper charger. Maybe it beeps ?

So cos i was worried that i may damage the phone, i have
been removing the battery and charging it separately on
my little power supply, that means the phone is out of
action half of the time. If i can sort that out, then the
phone could be alive and functioning, while the battery
is being charged. That would be a better arrangement.

You are right there seem to be two versions of this, one
grey and one black. Mine is the black. It still works ok,
and the battery lasts four days after a full charge,
unless you use it a lot and run it down quick, couple of
calls a day, it lasts four days.

Regards, John

The beeps don't signify a good charging!! You must have running in the display batery level in a ok charging! If the separat charging for batrery works ok end don't be inconvenience about theat everyting OK!

Hi,

The inconvenience is that the phone is out of
action while the battery is removed to charge.

I remove it to connect the small power supply.

I would like to charge it in the phone, all as a
unit, battery and phone together. To do so i
will have to know why it beeps when i shove
current into the small round hole.

It could be that it is supposed to beep, to
say its being charged ... ?

If i can keep it all together, then the phone
can stay in use while charging.

Meanwhile, i will have to charge it separately.

Cheers, John

Hi Winner,

from the pic above in post #5 i actually think
that the little round hole is the point of entry
for the battery charger.
Its a 6 to 7 volt Li-Ion battery,
i think it is supposed to give a short beep
when charging starts.
I will be trying to make a unit to give it @
100 to 150 mA and see how it goes.
Maybe i could up it to 200 mA later.

Regards, John

Hi Y'all !!

A friend of mine has given me an old battery
charger for a NOKIA that he found, and the fitting
fits this old NHE-5NX phone.

I haven't tried it, because the output quoted on
this little unit is 10 Volts at 0.74 Amperes, its
model is ACH-6E there are 5 pictures of it on google
images. Its very small, and very light, i find it
hard to credit it with three quarters of an amp.

Many mobile phone chargers have a higher voltage
quoted on them than the batteries they charge, i can
only guess that the phone somehow uses this difference
maybe for stabilising in some way, or possibly the
batteries may need a little higher voltage to get a
charge as they get older ... ? who knows ?

Thing is, if this unit will not damage my phone or
its battery, then i would happily use it.

But i don't know.

Regards, John
