5510 keys not working after replacing LCD

I had a problem where my LCD screen was showing corrupt stuff.
I replaced the LCD module and now the Up/Down and Cancel keys are not working.

On the LCD module that was originally in the phone, there was some copper stuff around the down key and overlapping the edge. This doesnt appear to me to actually form a contact with anything. What is this for?
Having this in place or not has not made a difference as far as I can tell.

Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew

Just to see if it was the LCD module causing the issue, I replaced the original LCD module. Now the keys work and the screen is not corrupt!

I've got no idea what caused the screen display corruption. After taking a quick look at the screen, the local tech said the LCD module needed to be replaced which is why I was trying to do that.

The corruption appeared to clear itself briefly after a poweroff and then returned. Hence my trip to the local tech.

Looks like the key-press-ability is part of the LCD screen module.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
Andrew
