How can you identify that a phone is liquid/water-damaged

I was wondering what are the symptoms of having a liquid/water-damaged phones apart from the symptoms that are visable such as condensation on the pcb.

The reason I was asking was because I bought a faulty nokia 6630 and the fault was that when you truned on the phone, the screen was showed up white. I initially thought it was a bad flash so i took it to get reflashed.

4 weeks later, the phone comes back to me and the shop owner said "your phone is water-damaged beyond repair" there was no visual proof that it was and he didnt explain it in further detail so I was just wondering. Any thoughts would be welcome.

The connectors of the pcb are sulfated and it's possible that any black colour by the pass of electric to the pcb and something into the protectors of internal carcass meet any visual proof of water damage

Yea that much is obvious because thats visual but are there any other way to assess the water-damaged apart from visual?
