X3-00 (RM-540) camera on standby or camera operation failed Back to

Service and Repair ID: SR1160
Version: 1.0
Published December 03, 2010

Affected Products or Services
X3-00, X3, RM-540
Introduction

This article is linked to the GENIUS case: #169269: Nokia X3-00: Camera on standby. Samples from India showed camera issues, which lead to error messages like "operation failed" or "camera on standby". Reproducibility of such problems varies; sometimes the problem might occur on one out of ten photographs, but we have also seen cases where problem occurs on almost every use of the camera.

The camera works as specified, the RAP is working as specified, but for some camera <--> processor constellations the communication between them does not work reliable enough.

It's pretty unlikely that we find a technical solution soon, but we believe that the new camera version coming in Q2/11 will improve the situation.
Bulletin Content

Although the camera module is not defect, we recommend to change the camera module if the service centers can reproduce the issue even after SW update, or if the consumer is coming back repeatedly with this symptom.

How to hide "imgcache" folder on memory card from Gallery view (X2-00)
Affected Products or Services
RM-618, X2-00
Introduction
X2 imgcache.JPG - 4shared.com - photo sharing - download image

There is a folder "imgcache" on the memory card of Nokia X2-00 (see example picture below). In this folder there are files with extensions .arc and .tec, which are visible, but cannot be opened in phone's Gallery. When user deletes the folder it keeps coming back after taking pictures or browsing the image gallery.

Some users are very concerned about that folder and its characteristics, suspecting it to be related to malware.

This article describes how to hide that folder from phone's Gallery view.
Bulletin Content

Solution:

It is important to note that the described folder is not a virus or other kind of malware. It is actually a system folder for temporary files, used to improve user experience in the image gallery.

Note that in former products this folder was hidden per default. In recent products it is visible to allow the user to delete it for freeing up space on the memory card (see article SR1162 on information how to do that). It will automatically be recreated as soon as gallery or camera is used.

In case users get confused by the folder, and do not want to have it in the Gallery view at all, perform the following steps to revert to the "hidden" mode as on former products:
Insert memory card into handset X2-00.
Connect handset to computer using data cable CA-101.
Select "Mass storage" or "Data storage" (different names for same functionality) from handset.
On computer, now open "My computer", and then "Removable disk" (exact name may be customized by user).
Right click on "imgcache" folder.
Click on "Properties".
Check mark option on "Hidden".
Click on "Apply".
Click on "OK".
Now Folder "imgcache" will not be visible to users in phone Gallery. You can check it by opening "Gallery", and then "All content", and then "Memory card".

The folder will not be physically removed by this process!

Nokia C5-00 (RM-645) Important UI Flexi Repair Instructions for Symptom "Does not Switch ON" Back to category

Service and Repair ID: SR521
Version: 2.0

Affected Products or Services
C5-00, RM-645
Introduction

Important Repair Instructions
Whenever the C5-00 product is disassembled in a service centre/factory it is important to affix the pad (9407544) to the UI flexi connector. This is to ensure that the UI flexi connector could not disconnect during A-cover assembly. This is a temporary measure until a newer version (V6.0) of B-covers is made available -expected to be released in Wk33.
Bulletin Content

All the C5-00 products returned to Service centres must check and follow these instructions:
If B-cover assembly is V5.0 and lower than affix the pad as instructed below.
If the B-Cover assembly is V6.0 or newer than Pad is NOT required.

Affected Products or Services
Nokia C5-00 (RM-645)

NOTES:

1. ”Poor solder quality affecting main ASICs or Compo memory”.
This comment refers to bad solder joints on the D2800/memory combo part. It was observed that applying pressure to the component/flexing PWB could sometimes result is a broken handset working again. Because the memory component is soldered internally on top of main processor (D2800) it was impossible to determine if the soldering problem had occurred between PWB and D2800 or internally between processor and memory.

If the soldering problem is between PWB and D2800 then it is a factory generated problem. If the bad soldering is between processor and memory then it is a supplier problem as the memory is fitted by the main processor manufacturer.

2. “Main ASICs and Combo memory condition”
This comment is in reference to the known about D2800 internal problem.

3. “Power supply paths and components”
This comment is not in relation to the battery charging system. The handset power supply device (N2200) requires a number of extra components (capacitors, inductors and diodes) in order to generate the necessary voltages used inside the handset. The comment refers to checking whether these components are fitted correctly and functioning.

Introduction

Some Nokia N8-00, E7-00, C6-01, E6-00, and X7-00 may not start charging after battery has gone flat and phone turned itself off.
Bulletin Content

1) Battery goes flat in normal use and the phone turns off.

Problem:

When charger is connected to the phone (µUSB or dynamo charger), and if it seems that the phone
· does not start to charge (charging bar not running and charging indicator light not lit) or
· is not booting up from power key shortly after the charger was connected

Solution:

To boot up the phone: it should be waited for at least 20 seconds (the charger still connected) and then the power key should be pressed.
To re-charge the battery: it should be waited for at least 20 seconds (the charger still connected) and then the charger should be re-connected.

2) Battery has gone flat as the phone has NOT been in use for several days / weeks (i.e. the battery has gone totally empty).
When charger is connected to the phone (µUSB or dynamo charger), it may take several minutes before the charging starts and anything is seen on the screen.
The phone should be charged before trying to start it
In some cases charging may not start when an end user connects charger to phone for first time
If that happens, the user should disconnect the charger and try again
Check that charging LED light is lit. If light is seen, then charging works properly.
