Unhappy Vodafone GX20 unlock problems. Nothing works for me.

I bought a Vodafone Sharp GX20 abroad and it's giving me a "Invalid Network SIM" error and freezes the phone (can only call SOS). I've tried to unlock it using all the methods I have found but none have worked. I have a GX10/20 serial datacable that should work fine. All pins connected.

santelgx20 gives "Initialization Error" or similar, Gxx unlocker does not work. I've also tried to flash it with FreaX/Unisoft flashers but they give a "Sync Byte" error and do not work.

Sharp Unlocker 3.1 is the only one that works. The process went fine but it didn't unlock the phone. Still the same "Invalid Network SIM" error.

Sometimes when I power the GX20 on, it does not give a "Invalid Network SIM" error but a "Emergency only" notification. I can use the menu fine in this mode. If I go to the Network Settings and try to manually choose my network, it searches for the networks and displays them correctly. If I choose my own network it gives a "Network Unavailable" error and I have to default to Automatic. If I do this the GX20 goes back into the "Invalid Network SIM" mode and freezes the phone.

I have used the code *01763*6371# to enter the MEP Security menu. All the settings there are set to Disabled (SIM, Network, Network Sub, Corp...).

I do not know if the phone is IMEI blacklisted but I doubt it. I would hope it would give a clearer notification about it.

Software version is : A02-005-0147-GX20

Running out of ideas here. All help is appreciated.

Do you press the red button on you phone and keep it pressed?

Yes. I keep the power button down until the flasher gives me the error, but the GX20 stays dark. It doesn't power up like normal just stays dark.

I can keep the power button down as long as I like but it does nothing. Just stays dark. A MessageBox named DownLoader pops up with "Unable to receive Sync Byte." notification. Press OK and it takes me back to the main window.

Can it be, that you press the button to early?
Press it when the flasher says it!

I start pressing when it tells me to "Press Power Button !". Right when it comes up, wait 5 seconds after it tells me to then start pressing... Doesn't matter - GX20 stays unpowered. When the "Unable to receive Sync Byte" pops up I stop pressing and then press the power button again and it powers on like normal.

The other option is when you have the xxxx up on the screen press 1 to get test menu up press 99 and then 3. This will unlock the phone by formatting data.

I have tried the Sharp Unlocker 3.1 about 10 times. Always the same result.

Pressing 1 indeed did give me a GX20 Diag menu. I did what you said and it gave me two E_xxxx notes with OK. So the process seemed to go fine. I powered down and restarted. No change. It is still locked.

Now I have another problem after this. Sharp Unlocker 3.1 no longer gives me the XXXX on screen when it asks to power on. Instead it powers on like normal.

Seems like not getting the XXXX was a temporary glitch as I now get it. I did the procedure again and it gave me the same info.

DIAG_FORMAT START
DIAG_FORMAT OK

Nothing changed. Still get the same "Invalid Network SIM" and frozen phone.

I have tried 3 different SIM cards (3 different operators), tried the programs on 3 different computers, win98 and winxp, com1/com2, different com settings.. Same results.
