What is the basic differences between older versions and the newer versions of bluetooth?is it the only the speed?

1.0/1.0B - were rubbish
1.1 (ratified standard in 2002) was really the first practical implementation
1.2 (ratified standar 2005) added features, brought transfer rate improvement
2.0 +EDR (released 2004) The first big speed improvement
2.1 +EDR (adopted 2007) EDR speed + Secure simple pairing
3.0 +HS (2009) Interesting - HS mode is an extra 802.11 service, some other improvements
4.0 (2010) main extra seems to be a low power mode

Looks like all versions have strong backward compatibility, and there have been some feature changes in pretty much every version.

The 1.2 and 2.1 seem to be the most commonly used, for low speed or high speed data
