what is the deal with bluetooth drivers????

Seriously, WTF is the deal with all the widcomm mess? Why is it so screwed up?

So the XP native stack doesnt support many profiles, fine. We get a widcomm/toshiba/bluesoliel dongle/software package.

Why is it so many people have such issues with the widcomm dongles? Why all the cracks? Why is it so complicated?

MY background: I got an MSI starkey v222-bw 3x dongle and they dont have any XP drivers newer than 2900. Why is it Im dependant on MSI to release drivers? Why cant I just get newer stuff from broadcom/widcomm? Why are there keys and cracks and crap like that? If I download newer XP drivers will I need to be worried about serial# or activation key or anything? I currently have the MSI 2900 package installed.

It is really not that complicated!

If your msi bluetooth dongle comes with WIDCOMM, then it is almost certain that it has a Broadcom bluetooth chip. And you can use the WIDCOMM no matter which company releases to their users (lenovo, acer, Dell, Gateway etc.)

The only thing we would hope for improvement is that we can get routine updated drivers directly from Broadcom.

As for the Toshiba bluetooth driver, they are for CSR bluetooth chips AFAIK.

ok thanks for the tip. Yes my MSI dongle is a broadcomm based device. I will try to install the dlink drivers for their dongle, the DBT-120_revC

Should I uninstall the current MSI widcomm drivers?

If you are looking for the most updated WIDCOMM for XP, then you may refer to this thread:
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=825960

lenovo has relaesed WIDCOMM driver for ThinkPad bluetooth, which is also using Broadcom 2045 chip. Try and see if it recognize your MSI bluetooth dongle.

PS. I have used it with my Dell BT355, working just fine.

WOW! update.broadcom.com gave me a no-hassle upgrade from 2700 to 5.5.0.7800!!

This is just what you described in your earlier post about updates directly from broadcom.

Unfortunately, I still cannot use my computer and its speakers as an a2dp headset for my android phone like my moto s9-hd a2dp headset plays music from my android phone.

I guess this capability is just not build into the broadcom stack, where the laptop can stream music to an a2dp headset but can not act like an a2dp headset for another device to stream music to the laptop?

Yeah, I get Samsung WEP350 BT headset for my lover from accessorygeeks.com. It's so useful for him when he drive and call at the same time . This baby is one of world's thinnest Bluetooth headset (6.5mm thick). This is the simplest and easiest solution to obey the laws of the road. Plus, with your handsfree, cell phone users can increase more work production while talking at the same time with friends and family.
