how can i tell if patch will work with my dongle?

I am interested in getting the most out of my dongle ... my current WIDCOMM software version is 1.4.2.8 and it sure seems like version 4.0.1.2101 must have lots of new and improved goodies in it. There are no upgrades available at the website of my dongle manufacturer.

But looking at the CC&C webpage that has the 4.0.1.2101 upgrade, it says "v1.2 - BTW-4.0.1.2101". But my dongle (Actiontec BTM200, CSR firmware 802, HCI/LMP 1.1), appears to be Bluetooth version 1.1, class 3. Could I use the patched 2101 software with my 1.1 dongle - is it backward-compatible?

Also, the CC&C page says "If you purchased a USB dongle before 2004, your Bluetooth USB dongle may not have a security key, please download BTW-1.3.2.7 for your last version support." It also offers "v1.1 - BTW-1.4.2.10' for certain dongles "with security key". How can I tell if my dongle has a security key?

Thanks for any help. I have learned from this forum but a lot of it is over my head at this point - a Bluetooth tutorial for beginners would be great, but I haven't found one anywhere.
