Ultra Newbie Question

Hi, I recently purchased a bt zonet adapter and motorola tools. I am able to connect to my motorola using the cable provided (data). however i would like to use bt to connect. I installed ver5 of wincom and tryed the patch. When i use the cd from the adapter i get license probs. When i use the ver5 i don't get license probs the symbol is white in the middle but when i use motorola tools to detect my phone it simply won't detect it? I have the phone on discover. I know my phone is working properly because i have another phone that i can transfer files to using bt. I didn't think buying this 25$ adapter would turn out to be such a hassle. Anyways if someone can give me a link to a begginers course or just tell me to return this junk i would be more than grateful.
