I9100G not charging (after water damage repair)
 

Hi all,

First, I'd like to thank krish neupane and thevolatile1 for their help on dead I9100 repair

I replaced cracked U503 (ordered MAX8627ETD+) which caused short circuit (14 Ohms across C565) - didn't need to replace anything else and phone got back to life, all is working except:
When phone is shut and charger connected a yellow triangle and battery with a diagonal line through it appears there's no charging and no green amount of charge is displayed (just a geryish battery).
Also, when phone is running and I connect a charger, a message pops with "Battery Disconnected" and not charging at all.

I need some help on how to proceed from here: I was thinking replacing U504 'Linear Battery Charger' (ordered MAX8922LETB+) but not sure if it was affected by the water damage...
Maybe the circuit around U503 is still causing this?
Maybe micro USB connector issue?
Maybe it is a software issue?
What do you suggest?

checked V_Bus_5V and BATT pins - OK
Q500 FET is OK - I checked U504 pin 6 is toggled when connecting the charger.
replaced U504 (charging IC) and same problem (Battery Disconnected when plugging charger and not charging).

any suggestions what to check please?

there are some different layouts in I9100..
Do you have the layouts pdf other than what's in the service manual?
Can you tell the value/type of Q500 FET, D501
I have other resistors (2 small 1 bigger) above L508 - I can't tell what circuit they belong to (and they do not appear here):

I cannot find reference to U503 for ON or charging. Only reference is for camera or OTG ???

you are right, but since the original no-power issue was fixed replacing U503, I'm looking to find more affected components near it...
Still didn't fix this "Battery Disconnected" pop-up and no-charging issue...I cannot replace PMIC U501 since it's a delicate BGA package :confused:

Who did you order the 503 from? UK?
Was it easy to replace.

I have two S2 boards dead as a post.
Also two S3 boards- same. Dop they share the same 503 I wonder.
If so might be worth buying a few.

I ordered free samples of U503 thru Maxim-IC site (their office is in Ireland).
4 days and got it super fast (it departed from China).
As far as reworking, I decided to use heat gun (careful with hot temps) both to remove and assemble faulty and new ICs and bam! got back to work (all but charging).
I hope that with your dead units the solution will involve only U503.
Please keep postin' on outcomes.
