P800 - extreme battery drain & hot

My P800 is only holding charge for about an hour in flight mode.

The phone is hot to the touch too.

I've:

- checked for background apps
- formatted the thing
- tried 2 different batteries (different mha too)

Am I right in thinking there's a resistor in there doing too much work or something? Could there be a short?

- how much do these things cost to fix in general? < £40?
- the fix for a not-recharging problem involves a transistor near the power socket. Could this be involved here too?

When my screwdrivers arrive I'll take the case off and try to find where the heat is coming from; probably the battery.

Maybe I can get replacement part from somewhere - replacement mainboard?

Nobody ever experienced or heard of this problem in any phone or indeed any hardware at all, ever?

I've EXACTLY the same problem (seems not to getting charge, no red light no sw indicator, but sloooowly charge in hours. when disconnected the charger, battery drains to zero in minutes, even with the phone turned off, and getting hot from connector area!)
No liquid penetration, no drops!
It happen after that the external power charger was ****!

hhheeelllppp!!!

Well I bought another P800 in the end!!

However, there's a post regarding a problem that I feel might be related:
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=154259

Pay attention to platijet. He's the man on that thread (hero).

Also, check that the screen isn't touching the side, possibly refit it. And obviously clear background programs with SMAN 's flush (I set it to internet button)

mmmm....

ok, here goes the solution:

Try to change a small regulator,it is like a transistor with three point to board and then change charge filter (it seems like a small silver square), both pieces near of the charge conector on board.

petermov is right. The regulator is actualy a fuse wich protects the phone from high current. If the charging voltage is bad, then this regulator is short circuiting and protecting the phone. Its location is on the top left corner of the PCB near the power regulating IC. There are 2 with same size so check wich of them is short circuted. If the phone is not watter damaged then is unlikely that the small cristal on the bottom is the problem. Good luck.

Current absorption even when P800 is off!

First of all I would want to thank who answered me

Now I would want to say something that should exhibit with extreme clarity my problem.

If I introduce a charged battery in the telephone, leaving the P800 completely turned off, the current absorption is 300mA !!!

So I don’t think that adding some wire bridge in the PCB will solve this.
Maybe the problem is in some components, that drains continuously current from the battery, with or without the external charge, with the telephone switched on or off, making some warm in the external connector zone (+30°C, when Tambient=+22°C).

So, what is broken? One of the two diode (or transistor?) 6F42? The IC R1A KC H487F? Other?

Unfortunately I am a newbie and I don’t have nothing to be able to decide alone thing to do (don’t have the partlist, neither the schematic ). If someone of you has these information, would pray to send them by email ([email protected])

I've uploaded two photos of my P800, so that you can annotate them with some suggestions.

Thank you all.
Francesco

so,problem is not that phone can't charge but somewere you have shortcircuit.measure the "+" and "-" of battery connector to PCB to find the resistance(in normal case must be more than 20Kohm)so,connect only PCB(not screen etc) to the battery and try to find by tuching all parts of PCB from where heat is coming.

propably petermov mean V502,is not regulator but double zener diode and this is heating in case of shortcircuit only when you connect the charger.
