smart clip not establishing lpt connection with computer

hello all does anyone know how to fix a smart clip that does not establish connection with compute via lpt connection? the box still unlock on version 2.02 but i get 'clip not found ' when trying to update on the net or trying to connect with smart moto. so far i have tried to remover D1 cos when ever i click connect, the lights from the clip trip off for a second and switch back on(only just took not of this resently so i can not tell if that not how it should act.) but that did not solve the problem of connection even thought the lights stoped blinking.

secondly i tried to remove D8 but the clip would not even power on any longer, so in frustration i replace d8 and came her for a possible solution.
pls i need someone who has encounterd this problem before to help with solution or someone will a richer understanding of the schematic to give possible suggestions as i am will to take the any risk.
regards

When you start your pc look at the bottom of the screen. There should appeare message like: "To enter setup press.....(delete, or esc, or f1 key etc..(depends on your motherboard or bios model ))" Press the one that is requested & you will be transferred into bios.

Hi,

I have the LPT problem sorted now.

BUT I have a new problem see below.

I have followed all the steps:

Quote:
Firewall on your computer (or your LAN) is configured properly or disabled
You have reliable internet connection
LPT port settings are set to EPP in BIOS
Your LPT cable works properly
You use a stable power supply with your clip (use power adapter)
Your IE version is not lower than v5.0
If you run update under WinXP, log in as Administrator or any other account with administrative rights

If you have problems updating under WinXP please download PortTalk file, unzip it and run install.bat. After that reboot your computer.

EDIT

I'm using the USB to power the Clip, is that ok ?

NO!
Thats your problem
The USB port on the Smart Clip is for unlocking/flashing
You need to power it using an external 9v power supply uint which plugs in where your battery normally goes.

But it says:

SMART-CLIP UPGRADE PROCEDURE
1. Connect Smart-Clip to PC using LPT cable
2. Power Smart-Clip ON (warning: don't use battery!)
3. Go to our Upgrade Zone
4. Upgrade Zone uses ActiveX element, answer "Yes" to install and run it
5. Press "Connect"
6. Press "Update" if your version is out of date
7. Power Smart-Clip OFF
8. Disconnect LPT cable

ie don't use battey in the PDF manual ?

EDIT

Oh power supply, bollix where will I get one of those

Cheers irishclips
